I remember one skit we did where I just assumed I was supposed to memorize the lines, and did so. When I showed up for the performance, I found out that everyone else was reading their lines of the pieces of paper they’d been given, and that that’s what the teacher had expected.
Went to a one room country school. There were six of us in grades one through eight. We all got big parts in the Christmas play, and got to sing in the choir. Confidence builder.
My 3-y-o grandson’s school (3-y-o preschool through HS seniors; 1 building, less than 100 students) streamed their holiday pageant live on FB. It was, of course, absolutely awful; we loved it!
Our High School kept generating world-class performers (Michael Buble was the latest) who could hide the fact that the rest of us were pretty terrible…
I can’t imagine being a teacher and holding a play with preschoolers. They can’t read yet so they can’t sit down alone and study their lines! Someone has to be with them to coach them…..every….step…..of….the….way!

I was in a play in elementary school. I felt bad about being picked because I was one of the 4 smallest boys in the class.

If he’d been allowed to carry the hammer instead of the wand, it would have done wonders for his self-confidence.

So spot on for the annual pageant shows we did in church…director whispering our lines off stage, proud parents, photo cubes flashing…

I wish someone would feed me my lines. In real life.

I’m old enough that the public school I went to did a nativity play. I wasn’t cast in it, but my bathrobe was.

During our kindergarten Christmas play I fell off the stage.

Aww. Beni was stricken with Stage Fright! Luckily a plucky prompter (Miss Bliss herself?) pushed him his lines.
And the Otterloops loved it! They are true preschooler parents!
