I was okay with hitch-hiking in the 60s, either as the rider or the driver. Now, I might stop if you wave me down. Maybe. Except when I’m going to or from where the road crosses the Pacific Crest Trail. Then, I’ll stop for anybody wearing or carrying boots who has a backpack.
My late brother once had an obnoxious friend that discovered all the coins that slipped out of your pocket and ended up under our lounge seats. He gleefully scooped them up & pocketed the loose change. No one challenged his behaviour as we were all too shocked at his crass & inappropriate behaviour. It was his last visit to our home.
Years ago I managed a car wash. Once a week I had to empty the vacuum machine. One of the few chores I really enjoyed. Always found between 10 and 15 bucks worth of change and once even found a real gold ring.
