That brings back 59 year old memories of running barefoot through a patch of sandspurs. I cringed when I remembered.

Not sure what’s worse, hot pavement or sand spurs but hot pavement won’t give my mower a flat.

I can STILL remember our first Family Vacation to Florida in 1958 before we moved there, and my older brother running towards the beach, and SCREAMING when he hit a patch of sandspurs! My dad had to go rescue him and mom spent the next hour pulling them from his feet….

They are kind of a regional thing, but MAN, are those little boogers PAINFUL!!!!!!

Sand spurs, the bane of my youth. Ugh! When my mom came to live with us, she paid one of my sons $1 for every plant he pulled up. 30 years later, still no sand spurs!

Native Pro tip: Wet your fingers before you pull them out….they won’t stick to your fingers… good to know…

Sand spurs – one of many reasons I left Florida.

But here in Colorado (and many western states), it’s the goat head weed. A pretty little plant, with seeds like nails.

Goat heads flattened many a bicycle tire (I don’t recall sand spurs doing that).

Truly noxious weeds if ever there were.

Memories of summer camp in coastal North Carolina. They not only had sand spurs but also these spikey balls from the sweet gum trees, slightly smaller a golf ball.

That said, I thought that was what flip-flops were for.

And we know Mel has some – he outgrew them on Thanksgiving Day!

A Smart Floridian knows to walk in the First Guy’s footsteps.

    It could be worse.

I once saw a Tourist decide to just Lie Down in that wonderful looking “Soft Grass”.
