When my son was 9, he broke his leg playing soccer at recess at school. So the docs set his leg and put it in a cast. He broke the cast playing soccer on his crutches.
The school was worried that we would sue. We told them that we knew that they were doing “due diligence.” We knew our son and were amazed he almost made a full decade before sustaining some sort of major sports injury. My son is one of the nicest people you could meet: until he gets in any sports arena: then he turns into a suicidal maniac.
The cast reminded me of my old college roommate, who used to hang around the bar in the ski lodges wearing a fake plaster cast to pick up snow bunnies. It worked, too!
He always looked the part. Dressed in the best looking apres-ski wear of the day. Talked knowledgeably liked seasoned skier. And never had been on skis a day in his life! The closest he ever got to the slopes was schussing from the bar to the bedroom.
BTW …When he graduated from college he went on to work for the U.S. State Department and became a career diplomat.

“He didn’t tell us not to. He just grunted, turned pale and went to sleep.”
