My nephew Stuart turns forty-one tomorrow. I was just twelve when he was born. The relevance of this is that I let him read one of my Calvin and Hobbes books when he was ten and he enjoyed it but said that it is sometimes hard to tell whether something is supposed to be real or just in Calvin’s imagination. He went on to point out that this includes Hobbes himself. This complex story arc is a prime example of this. Hobbes seems to be the key to reality in this case as he stays with the real Calvin throughout the story although the duplicates may or may not be in Calvin’s imagination.

At this point Calvin might want to hang out with the duplicate more often instead of avoiding him.

There is a Twilight Zone episode in which Vera Miles and Martin Milner encounter their doubles from a parallel universe.

Mom is going to think she is insane if she just put Calvin in his room upstairs, comes downstairs, and finds him there.

How many coats does Calvin have? Mom took off Calvin 2’s coat and 1’s putting on another one.
