Writing it in code sounds like a great idea! Do the same for the whole class. It should say “If you can read this, you have been tricked into learning hexadecimal.” in hexadecimal.
Social silliness, particularly of the romantic kind, was never my thing all the way through school into graduate school. I have never regretted that, but I did regret not learning to throw a Frisbee. I had a steep learning curve when I got a golden retriever puppy.
