After chasing the aurora for 15 years, we FINALLY saw it this Christmas up in (Lapland) Finland. Interestingly, the human eye does not see the color (you might see a tinge if the aurora is strong). You see it in black and white, but it still looks amazing. Your CAMERA, on the other hand, WILL capture the color!!!! Make sure you have a good camera. We are photographers and brought our fancy-schmancy equipment, only to be on our way to dinner when it happened and only had our cell phones on us for capturing it! AAAAAUGH!!!!! Was so mad! But it was magnificent anyway! I want to see this again!

Back in the late 1980’s, I saw the Northern Lights in the Florida Panhandle at the same latitude as the pyramids of Giza. That, or maybe STEVE.

And you mean to tell me it hasn’t yet been nominated for an academy award?

I spent 3 1/2 years in Anchorage Alaska. I remember seeing the aurora in color if I remember.

I caught the aurora above the Arctic Circle standing watch on the sail of a submarine in 67. Water temp was 31 F. Awesome.
