I remember when Mark Russell would sing a jaunty piano rag on PBS about these topics. I think now he needs to pivot to death metal.

From reading of history, I think the democracy began weakening right around 1905 or so. Began accelerating toward doom in 1914. Took another big hit in 1939. Then began truly collapsing in 1969. We’re now wandering around its rubble while the world points and alternately laughs and cries.

Actually, inflation became out of control with Nixon. “Whip inflation now.” was a Nixon slogan. Carter was also a graduate of Annapolis, a naval officer, an engineer and a governor of Georgia.

Things could be a lot worse: at least we’re not going through a global pand… at least my Orioles aren’t in the cellar yet!
