I used to wonder how my mom knew if I was really sick or just faking it….until I had a child of my own. Then I went “OH, so THAT’S how she knew.” When my kid was really sick (starting as a toddler – babies are different), she just LOOKED it. Her skin took on an almost green tinge to it (she is very pale to begin with), her eyes looked…..flat, lifeless, her personality changed completely. There was never any doubt. But I think it is the eyes that really give it away. I can’t really explain it. But I suddenly understood how my mom knew as soon as I saw my daughter sick for the first time.
