Come now, Mrs. Olsen – Caulfield’s MUCH more likely to have an impertinent record. Or to set one.

If he does wind up doing something that really matters and makes a difference, it may well go on his permanent record—well, as permanent as our records ever get. And pertinent, too!

Mrs. Olsen knows Caulfield very well, and she knows that his expressed desire to make a real difference is truly pertinent to his nature. As a proof of Caulfield’s depth, see Frazz. Feb 8, 2015. Shows that, beneath his supposedly blase exterior, lies a very perceptive and empathetic young man.

Anyone else remember the strip many years ago when Caufield is visiting a natural history museum that has a time line of history on the floor of a very long hallway. He notes the very small portion represent modern times and make a very astute observation about “permanent records”? It has been one of my favorate Frazz creations.

The three permanent records that affect you the most are: criminal, credit and medical. Though no one is allowed to know the magic mix of the credit report.

I suspect that a kid as bright as Caulfield would grow up to make a huge difference in the world, so long as he doesn’t get bored into a mental catatonia.

Time to go Animal House on the Homecoming Parade? They’ll remember that!

No, I’ll go with pertinent. I’ve seen some of the people with platinum records.
