When I worked for American Greetings a lady once griped to me that the price of the card was more than they spent for the present. I thought they (especially if there was a group that went in together to buy the gift) must’ve been cheapos. The card was $3.50.
It was hard for me when I used to buy cards. I hit a funny one and start laughing out loud but the worst was finding a card that made me tear up. I suppose it was good to let the emotions out though.
I don’t recall my wife using even one thing I bought her for Christmas or her birthday for the past 30 years. Either I am lousy at buying gifts, or she is too fussy. Gift cards from now on.
I never spend much on cards, but my mom’s latest birthday worked out perfectly! She told me “Don’t make a big fuss.” I found a card that said “Mom, I know you said not to make a big fuss over your birthday.” on the outside.Inside, it said “…but since when do I ever listen?” and there’s a picture of a parade, with a cake with light-up candles, and it plays a jazzy version of Happy Birthday.
Got it at a closeout sale for less than some regular cards.

Just walk away and remember to call or visit her for her birthday. She’ll appreciate that a lot more than an overpriced card.
