It’s true, there is no place in a house that’s beyond the reach of a cat.

I was lucky. (Her name was) Shadow liked the top of the refrigerator best. She could reach it in a single bound. She didn’t need the neighboring counter to reach it.

Ours knew she wasn’t to get up on the mantle where a heavy cut glass vase was. Caught her up there one morning hiding in the open little transom window (she couldn’t fall out because of how it was built).

Mine don’t jump on the kitchen counter, no cat of mine ever did. Don’t know why. They do jump on the dining table, which is off limits too.

Someday, maybe Fred will win the fight then that cat will stay out for the night.

Putting sheets of foil on the counters works. It scares the heck out of them when they land on it.

My guy Garby can go wherever he wants. It wouldn’t do any good for me to try to stop him anyway… And he really doesn’t get up on the kitchen counter very often anyway. BUT, I do keep his feeder bowl and water on my dining room table, just to keep it out of reach of my pups, since they LOVE his dry cat food! Go figure…

I’d rather them on the counter than outside killing birds.

I put a screen hooked up to a 12v battery on the counter. It did it just once.

if you have a cat, guess what?, they’re on the counters and dinner table when you’re not home…my Mischief can go anywhere she wants, and eats with me on the dinner table, she doesn’t like to eat alone

I have one that occasionally gets on the counter because he wants to practice his B&E skills on the cabinet doors. The others just jump on the bookcases, drawing table, drawing counter, dresser, coffee table…

Water will keep them off. Putting them out makes them a magnet for parasites.

Sometimes cats get on the counter to get to your food, but often they jump up there simply to be nearer you. Cats are short, and want to be where they can see you, not your ankles. So don’t get irritated— it’s an expression of love.

Hilarious how cat owners try to train their cats to follow rules: don’t sit here, don’t jump there, be there but not here. Almost nobody bothers to read up on the nature of a cat.
