My better half had bypass surgery and was warned that mood swings and depression were common in the first six months afterward. I had to keep reminding him that the nearest thing to heart surgery in our evolutionary past was having one’s chest ripped open by a large carnivore, so of course it was disturbing.
I know that. Major Inguinal surgery started at 7 am and out by 2pm and was home at 5pm. With a bunch of pain meds. Which I did not take. But it’ll hurt they said….I replied…..Pain is the body telling you not to hurt it anymore. It’s normal after this type of occurrence.
ins determines how long you will stay. sometimes drs can influence an extension if it is warranted. i think he is liking the attention and being taken care of by the nurses.
One time I was in the hospital for an intestinal blockage and after it cleared the doctors were ready to send me home, but something told me I wasn’t reach get and when I told the nurse she talked the doctor into holding me over one more night. That night I started vomiting and when they ran texts they found out that I had a blood infection, something totally unrelated to the intestinal blockage, it took another tree days before they were ready to try and release me again, and that time I had no problem with the idea.
I did a ten day hospital stay a few years back and towards the end found myself grumpy and apologized instantly for being snappish at a nurse, wondering out loud what was wrong with me. It’s not like me. She said the best, kindest thing she could possibly have said: that when patients get grumpy, to the nurses it’s a good sign. It means they’re getting better and they finally have the energy to get antsy about wanting to go home.

Had hernia operation on an outpatient basis. Gave me a couple (and I mean two) opioids for pain and down the road.
