When we first got a dvr with our cable service ages ago my wife said we really don’t need to pay for that because we will never use it. Last time I checked she has 25 shows recorded. OST of them those fake HGTV remodeling shows.
I stopped channel surfing once the guide started showing up on the TV. I can keep watching the predigested pablum I’m looking at while I scroll down and refuse to select the other copycat crap that’s out there. If it weren’t for Sports and National Geographic I would just read books(well listen. Thank you Audible)
Remotes do not “click”, at least not for the last 30 years or so. The buttons silently push down conductive pads inside that touch two adjacent contacts.

I watch very little TV in real time. I record almost everything so I can fast forward through all the annoying commercials.

Some shows do not allow fast forwarding through commercials.
