At the end of my father’s carrier in the Air Force he was the head of FOD (Foreign Object Dept.). The whole idea is to prevent anything from going through the engine intake. This would be a no no. His biggest rule was one tool at a time; if you had finished using a tool, it went back in the tool box. God forbid you didn’t follow the rule; he was like Darth Vader when it came to that rule; even at home.
In 1961, I was a Mickey Mantle fan. I was so angry at Roger Maris, who was in the process of beating Mantle out for the home run title that year, that I put Maris’ 1961 Topps card in my spokes…
Never used baseball cards for that. They were cheap cardboard and wore out too quickly. They never made the desired sound. The only reasonable choice was a playing card, Much sturdier and often waterproof. The only downside came when my parents wanted to play bridge.

My stepdad told me that the cards would weaken the spokes on my bike’s wheels.

Wonder what it would be worth today?

Even worse, it’s a Tom Seaver rookie card.

If he uses a card for a member of the 2017 Astros, the engine would sound like someone banging on a trash can.

I was thinking the guy on the ground would say “Just stay there, I am gong to start the engine up so we can hear what it sounds like.”

We even used balloons. Didn’t last very long, but made a satisfying noise.
