I workd from home for many years, and you do have to be disciplined and not get distracted. The other big issue (I found) was actually stopping – there is a steong temptation to say, “oh, another ten minutes will see this done” and then " will only take a moment to finish that" and before you know it you’ve done a 15 hour day. Also you end up working seven days a week, and never get away from it.
I have to say that when I´m now on day 8 with covid-19, this have been interesting experience but cannot recommend to anyone. Have been quarantined in home, luckily we had freezer and fridge full. Chest pains and cough, sore joints and muscles, head like hammered, eyes on fire. Now most is behind but I lost my taste and smell senses. I have strange metallic taste in my mouth, palate and tongue feels like burned. Maybe that’s what the virus tastes, dunno. Lost interest to eat anything, without flavor food is nothing but disgusting.
Tomorrow I may get my freedom from home, if my doctor gives her permission.
Good advice John and Scott. Stay safe. As one who is considered compromised with type 2 diabetes and a heart condition, I’m self isolated. I hope you continue to improve Jukorte and will up out and bouncing about very soon. Best wishes to all Working Daze readers and to Scott and John.
Actually, we are all in the Matrix and the system is undergoing a large-ish security update, so all of us “aps” are on lockdown to reduce processor demand for a while. Our only real danger is that the Great Programmer (be It wise and merciful) not decide that we are a redundant process in Its Grand Design and just leave us in lockdown permanently.
I’m responsible for ensuring that a nuclear plant’s control room simulator looks and acts the same as the real plant. I spent this week at home getting things ready for a major upgrade, but I need to work a few days at the site to test the upgrade we put in a few weeks ago. Training never stops at a nuclear plant and I don’t think you’d want it to.
I have family who work at a hospital. They found that new mothers don’t listen when told that the delivery of their baby will have to wait until all this is over. :-) Also, telecommuting nursing still has issues.
I work for the United States Postal Service, which is NOT shutting down. As far as I know, no one at my building has tested positive for COVID-19. (I don’t know if anyone has taken the test, though. Is it multiple choice or essay?) I’m signed next quarter, starting the 1st, to work up to 12-hour days, which means I’ll be getting more than a regular paycheck every other week. I understand that the poor saps who have to do customer service over the phone are going to get to work from home. And my streaming services include access to Star Trek: Picard, though that ends this week, and the animated (and VERY foul-mouthed; lotsa F-bombs) Harley Quinn series, so I’m good there.
On another subject, am I the only one who’s finding Rita kinda sexy with her new hairstyle? That just might motivate some of her underlings.
I work for a Federal agency and telework (or telecommuting, as some call it) has been policy for the 10-years since I started working there. It comes in handy during inclement weather and in situations like this. I can even sign contracts (one of my tasks) electronically. I wonder what changes will develop among office environments after this is over….
where i work no vendor’s are allowed in the building, one person in the restroom at a time, no eating in the break room, the list go’s on, also got paper to show if there’s a lock down, homeland security deemed us as an essential critical infrastructure worker’s so i’m allowed to drive back and fourth to work, i understand the problem but it would be nice if people would just stop cleaning the store’s out so it could be a least a little less hassle for some people

I have found that it helps me to stick with teleworking if I put on street clothes rather than stay in my pajamas.
