We didn’t have playdates when I was little. If a friend wanted to play with me he would walk over to my house and ask if I could come out and play. Or I would just go over his house and ask. Things were simpler then.
Time outs are solitary confinement for kids. They do nothing positive and should be treated as child abuse. There are better ways to deal with the child’s behaviour than solitary confinement.
This was not a ‘reasonable response’. The supposed threat of children being abducted off the street by unknown adults was and is almost unknown. The huge percentage of perpetrators was and is adults the children know. Hysteria over this has cost children the freedom to play among themselves for no real reason.

Traditions, traditions… you may ask how did this tradition get started? I will tell you: I don’t know. ~Tevye the milkman

“It’s tradition.” What people say when they’re getting ready to do something terrible.
