Never owned a dog, but when my family had cats, it was difficult to let one sleep in my room for it kept crawling all over the bed.

That’s why I don’t have any dogs.

I used to have a couple of yappers like that. They learned quickly that it was a bad idea to yap in the middle of the night.

Luann must have given Puddles that spicy dinner she tried to make.

Crate training. Starts tomorrow, right Luann? Puddles loses his “sleep in her room” privileges and has to learn to overnight in his own personal crate.

Puddles is okay and more welcome than some of the girls I’ve known. Equal time for the girls who probably felt the same about me.

One of “us” needs to train their dog properly.

Luann will never know what terrors Puddles was protecting her from in the night. Probably just as well.

My dog sacks out completely at night. And I don’t hear anyone else’s barking, either.

Maybe someone’s trying to get into the house, Lu.

Makes me glad that I have a cat. Most of the time they are quiet.

Caress, coo and pet the dog after he has trashed the house and you will get disruptive behaviour from a bad dog. Why act surprised?

This is one of the reasons why I dislike small dogs and will never own one. Their “bark” (if you can call it that) is insanely annoying! Also their spoiled rotten crappy sense of entitlement attitude just adds to my distain. I blame the owners for enabling such behavior instead of training it out of the animal.

And those you who may take offense….get over yourselves. Everyone doesn’t have to like the same things in life.

I’m a cat person myself, but I’ve owned a rescue German Shepherd and thought he was the greatest!

Puddles was up all night because of all that cayenne pepper stew Luann fed him. It all finally passed by morning, and he was able to go to sleep. Poor little guy…

Been there, done that with three dogs at once.

I’ve had dogs my whole life and never experienced that behavior. When it has happened it was because they had to go out and due their business

could have been a prowler.

That’s why dogs and cats don’t belong in the bedroom – ever.

I’ve never seen Puddles as hyper active as he’s been the past week. In Luannverse time he’s middle aged so I would have thought he’d mellow out a bit (or been trained by now).

Every now and again a Sunday strip is really nice, and makes sense in the context of Luann characters as they are now, and maybe contributes a little to our “understanding” of the current Luanniverse. More often though The Sunday installments draw on broad stereotypes, don’t make much sense, and just muddy the waters in terms of the big picture.

Today’s installment, for example, raises several questions:If Puddles’ barking is loud enough to keep Luann awake, wouldn’t it also wake Frank and Nancy, and wouldn’t they be complaining about it? As someone noted earlier, why would a dog Puddles’ age still have this annoying habit? The fact that Luann DIDN’T get up to see if something was wrong, combined with her comment in the last panel, suggests that these mid-night barkfests are not uncommon, leading one to question why that problem hasn’t been addressed by now, and of course…It leads one to conclude that because Luann allows this to go on, inconveniencing her parents and, until recently, Pru, she must be a lazy, irresponsible, and inconsiderate dog owner – proving once again that she’s just a child who refuses to accept adult responsibilities.

And yet we see her maturing in many other ways, albeit rather slowly.

I should just quit reading the Sunday strips.

i have a min pin and he barely barks, only time has been at night when a stranger walks by when we are outside for him to do his duty. he doesn’t even bark when other dogs bark when we are at the park. at first i thought when i rescued him his vocal cords had been cut. it wasn’t until 2 weeks later when my friends came over to eet him that he barked at them when they came inside.

Luann’s fault. She needs to get Puddles out for enough exercise that he’s tired at night.

That’s like dog ownership 101…

I guess I don’t understand dogs, but is Puddles barking to be let outside to do his business? I never heard of a dog doing that. They’re trained to go out when they’re taken for walks, twice a day maybe, and that"s DAY, not night, right? I always had cats, and they’d wake me in the morning at breakfast time, but not in the middle of the night.

I’m planning on getting a dog, a “Buddy” but one issue is whether to let it in the bedroom at any, much less at night. I do want keep sleeping with my wife, so two hearts would have to be won over.

Sadly, Luann can’t see the evil ghost Puddles is defending her from. (Happy Paranormal Day, fellow weirdos!)

I just have to say that when my dog barks or growls at night, better get the .45 out

A rolled up newspaper might help.

A squirt bottle should do the trick.

This is why exercise and socialization everyday is important when owning a dog! Usually a bored dog = “bad dog.” tired dog = happy!

My dad had that problem when he was young. He spent an entire day keeping the dog awake. It was ready to bite him by night time, but the dog slept that night.

True enough, Luann. But guess which one it will have to be….

Kudos to Luann for proper grammar! “One of us needs to change HIS schedule.” Maybe she paid more attention in school than I thought!

Kennel would be the best for this nocturnal.

Does Puddles have to sleep in your bed? Can you put him in a room far from your bedroom? I’ve always had dogs since I was 12 but they never sleep in my bed.
