Coming Soon 👀 At the beginning of April, you’ll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
Wow! Nice! Too bad Lewis & Fry aren’t inspired like this more often. Needs a title, though. “Nighthawks” is already taken, so what would YOU call it?
I don’t remember which cartoonist it was who some weeks/months ago did a brilliantly subtle coronavirus cartoon consisting of the darkened “Nighthawks” diner. Adding the OTH characters lightens it up wonderfully.
Years ago now there was a construction article in “Railroad Model Craftsman” that detailed how one model railroader put this scene inside one of the buildings on his layout. I learned not only how to do it but much about the original painting. It was a blend of art forms.
I’ve seen this diner’s sillohuette before… in a computer generated short about some salt & pepper shakers that dance when the lights go out. I think it was part of a video collection called “Computer Animation Festival #2”. Wiki & Google would know.
I always liked little corner diners like this. Or diners period. Or restaurants. I miss going and getting a bite to eat.
I don’t miss theaters at all. Let the movie industry find smarter ways to bring us new flicks. My 43" 4K “big screen” is plenty enough for my needs… and the popcorn is dirt cheap. ; )
My old drum corps, the now 19 time world champ Blue Devils, with their 2018 show “Dreams and Nighthawks” inspired by the painting, and perfectly recreated at the end.
TCM fans should recognize the painting as they occasionally use it for some of their lead- in’s on their film noir showings. This is a very nice utilization of the work. Tom Waits wrote an album " Nighthawks at the Diner." I recommend giving it a listen.
Anybody remember when “VeggieTales” made a similar reference in “The End of Silliness”? The exterior of the ice cream parlor in that episode was modeled in the same way as Nighthawks.

Why are they glowing? Does COVID-19 exposure cause one to become radioactive? (And I’ll take a slice of key lime, please, Hammy.)
