Curious. In the original, Linton’s first dialogue balloon in panel 3 read “Stop looking so flipping cheerful, Jack.” Not sure why Jack’s name was taken out here (the odd placement of the words in the balloon kind of make the change stand out).
Anyhoos, Elodie Broussard was first introduced in the Scary Go Round chapter “The Bell”; as part of a foreign exchange student program, she had previously stayed with the Boyces years earlier, and now The Boy was spending two weeks with the Broussards in France. (Due to her calling Eustace “Le Garcon”, he was subsequently called “The Boy” by everyone afterwards, although she granted him a new nickname, “Useless”, in that story.) The Boy and Elodie wound up looking into a sentient bell that was being blamed for cow mutilations after being replaced by the Easter Bunny, but the Bunny was actually a wendigo in disguise. (Unlike Archibald, this one was not a good boy.) (Also, in retrospect, it probably should have been more obvious that Archie was really a wendigo, all things considered.) (Elodie has a younger sister, Mimi, who is important in Bad Machinery’s eighth storyline, but that’s a good ways off still.)
