Of course they were fighting yesterday, but the good Calvin didn’t disappear until today. It’s cartoon physics. You don’t start falling until you look down and realize that you have run off the end of the cliff.

Another casualty of applied metaphysics was one evening when Rene Descartes was having dinner at a restaurant with a friend. The waiter came over when they were finishing up, and asked, “Would you gentlemen like to have a cup of coffee?”

Descartes replied, “I think not,” and vanished, never to be seen again.

This arc reminds of a Native American legend.

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people. He said, ‘My son, the battle is between two ‘wolves’ inside us all.

One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

The other is Good. It is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith.

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather: ‘Which wolf wins?’
