Whatever happened to “an apple for the teacher”? I suppose it wasn’t ever the actual thing that comics made it out to be. Certainly didn’t happen around me in the 50s and on.

Yup, did that. We potted a lady slipper and gave it to our daughter’s kindergarten teacher. She sent back a lovely note. She replanted it and let us know it’s a protected plant. We shouldn’t have dug it up!
@ms72 My mom was a realtor back in MA. She dug up a bunch from a lot that was going to be developed and planted them in our yard. She knew she shouldn’t but figured they’d be torn up the the ‘dozers otherwise.
