Wherever two or more are gathered in my name, I am there also.
I don’t recall that expression being caveated with that the two or more must be in an officially recognized place of worship or within 6 feet of one another.
The Bible records Jesus being in The Temple only three times: his bris, when he was 12 and again at the end of his life and the last time didn’t go smoothly.
Jesus probably did most of his teaching at the village well, the market place or wherever people otherwise gathered for business. In fact, most of his teaching was probably done outdoors and NOT is a building.
Today, I think we’d find him at the park downtown or the bus terminal. I wouldn’t put the paycheck on his showing up at the Vatican or Tabernacle Square or even the Dome of the Rock.
Looking at it, I wonder if it does have that, “one last great panel to go out on” feel to it? It would be a poignant and fitting final if he is done, but I sure hope that is not the case. Waiting and seeing….
Or, reviewing, the previous week was all about covid, I hope he wan’t signaling he came down with it and we are waiting for him to recover? Healing thoughts to him or and/or anyone who needs them, if Patrick doesn’t.
