for once (as far as I know), Jason did a pretty good job at making jokes that even I (emphasis on “I”) understand (partially)

This smells remarkably like those Father’s Day “Family Circus” cartoons where Billy takes over so Bil can have the day off.

Apparently all of the mean things Jason has done to her has left her without a sense of humor.

These six symbols (apple, mask, fork, steering wheel, microscope, shopping cart) have appeared in many other cartoons today. Does anybody know what this is about? They are in Non Sequitur, Reality Check and Speed Bump. Has anyone seen them anywhere else? I am still looking.

This is a tribute strip. Check out the comments in today’s Dog Eat Doug for what the symbols represent.

GitHub reference? github.com/united-geekdom , united-geekdom.github.io (forking typically happens on github.)

Love the “find the thing” activity. In these most unusual times, it might be very helpful to parents of young children if there were several, or many, Sunday comics offering this activity. You might publish the list on a website so as to not take up too much room on your art panels. Just an idea. Thanks

The idea began with “Baby Blues” co-creator Rick Kirkman, who contacted some of his fellow cartoonists about coordinating a campaign while sheltering in place. Kirkman’s syndicate, King Features, and the National Cartoonists Society helped boost the initiative, as did Andrews McMeel Syndication.

I love all the different approaches that the artists have used to showcase the “tribute” items. Some treat them like the hide them like in a drawing from Highlight magazine. Others have placed them in a natural setting. I love the use of puns.

The better the pun is the more it makes you cringe instead of laughing.

One of the cleverer ways to incorporate the essential worker tribute symbols. Great job on the corny puns and the tribute!

Fox Trot has been one of my favorite comics for years. I think I have all of the books. As an essential worker, in the ER (I actually read this in between patients) and in teaching, I would like to thank you and all of the cartoonists who took part in the National Cartoonists Society challenge to use the symbols in their comics today (well, yesterday, since I’m writing this on Monday).

I noticed that too in catching up on past comics. In the Lio comic from 6/7 the first panel has a request from the Nat’l Cartoonist Society to honor first responders and service people by putting these symbols in. Until I saw that I was beginning to think it was some kind of kid’s puzzle to find all the comics with those symbols… :)
