Danae: Hey, Jeffrey... I'd like to run a couple of scientific theories past you. Jeffrey: Um... really? OK. Danae: Winter is over, but we still have snow. So I figure it must be due to either, A: nature is mad at us or B: it's a practical joke by calendar companies. Jeffrey: I'm gonna go with, C: girls make my brain hurt... Danae: My dad says that a lot. Must be a guy thing...

Who would want a cure for girls? We can’t live with them, but we sure cannot live without them!
wicky almost 14 years ago
How about an “on” and “off” switch for girls.

Actually, it’s the difference between astronomical seasons (based on position of Earth in orbit) and meteorological seasons which depend on location on Earth. There are very few situations in which the two are congruent. Or… One can realize that Spring is transition between Winter and Summer so some days are more like Winter and others are more like Summer.

Or as Larry of the Newhart show said: You can’t live with them and you can’t put them in a sack.

Grog…That’s, get them in the sack!

SUBMACHINE I don’t know about “On/off” but “mute” would be nice.
Potrzebie almost 14 years ago
Can’t Jeff use his time machine to push her into summer?
alan.gurka almost 14 years ago
It’s “B,” a practical joke perpetrated by calendar makers, weather forecasters, and anyone else who thinks they can arbitrarily assign a date to when Winter will end. Yes, March 20 is the Vernal Equinox, the date that night and day are of equal duration, and the days will become longer, but it means nothing else.

Yeah, they make your brain hurt, but other parts….Mmmmmmm….

Girls…can’t live with them and there’s no re-sale value.

Actually I’ve alway preferred “Women. can’t live with them an there’s no way to upgrade the operating system.”

Hugh Hefner might take exception to that Kerovan…..

I don’t mind snow on the ground in Spring. That happens.
It’s when the snow doesn’t quit coming… .

Despite Danae’s control issues, I’m going to give her a little slack on this one. Remembering that she is supposed to be a kid, it makes sense that the whole snow-in-Spring thing is confusing. I remember when I was a kid, wondering how snow in Spring was possible - it certainly did not seem right.

The secret to success in not having your brain hurt is to just not listen to girls when they talk. Just don’t make it look like you’re not listening or something else might start hurting.

Hello! I know some of the comments here with regards to women were probably posted just to do some trolling and to get an emotional reaction out of people. If that is the case, I do admit it is fun to get people riled up sometimes, especially with regard to gender issues, and I don’t mean to interrupt. However, if some of you actually believe some of the negative things you are saying about women, then I am very sorry that is your experience! Where I work, men and women usually have very reasonable conversations and work very well together, without gender issues getting in the way. If you are in an environment where there seems to be something wrong with the other gender, I recommend moving around a bit and interacting with a new set of people; there is a lot to be learned from new experiences.
Of course if you are just having some internet troll fun, then you probably know all this anyway, and I am just preaching to a mischievous choir.
Best wishes to everyone!

Thanks, NightOwl19! The comments seemed to mostly be critical of the female gender indeed. Like you, I hope they were made in jest. :D

I think Danae should make jeffery’s brain hurt – after all its mostly the guys who codified all the science rules and set the calender….
How else can you explain 28 days in february (except of course leap years) and 31 days in some months, 30 in others?
Could a just had 13 4week months too easy….
yuggib over 13 years ago
Part of the mischievous choir. here.
I always heard the saying as, “you can’t live with them, and you can’t shoot them…and get away with it.” Usually said by a disgruntled man. (Is there such a thing as a “gruntled” whatever?)
Danae, I love ya! You keep this up and by the time you’re 21, every man-boy in the world will want to be your “friend.” In the meantime, keep driving them nuts!

@yuggib, your comment gruntled me–like when I read “How I met my wife” by Jack Winter, from the New Yorker, July 25, 1994.
@emory, blame the Romans. They had a very odd system, counting backwards from the Calends (now the 1st of each month), the Nones and Ides, making months of 29 or 31 days, except February, which had 28, but 23 or 24 in leap years followed by an extra month of 27 days. So it could be worse, much worse…
