This seems oddly familiar. Anyone remember Lucy and Peppermint Patty?

She got through the worst part… why’d she bail? She could have just held with the one

I think she bailed before getting even one done as she heard the customer before her screech.

What did Heart mean by “three in a row?” She only has two ears.

The pain of getting pierced ears! It’s there but it is brief and worth it.

NO! Get back here Heart! You went through all of that and now you’re going to bail out?

I saw a girl that had a small circle and one line of a tattoo on her shoulder. I think she jumped out of the chair about then. I never had an open tattoo parlor, and enough money and alcohol at the same time to get a tattoo.

I guess the one question she never asked Kat was, “Does it hurt?”

When mine were done, it was a bit of a shock when the gun drove the post through my earlobe, and the pain felt more like a pinch. And of course it was sore while the hole healed. Nothing aspirin (or ibuprofen or Tylenol) can’t deal with.

Sounds like someone doesn’t know how to pierce without pain…Too bad for Heart, since her heart was so set on it…

From what I remember of my experience and of my daughter’s the doctor said that there is a place on the lobe, if the piercing is done just right, it shouldn’t hurt or bleed…and it didn’t in our case…plus it didn’t swell up and healed quickly…

This reminds me of the episode of “Mama’s Family” when Bubba wanted to get his ear pierced. Iola pushing the knitting needle repeatedly through the orange is hilarious.

We were living in Saudi Arabia when my sister and I – 8 and 10 years old respectively, with full approval of Hispanic parents – decided we wanted our ears pierced. BUT no such thing as a Piercing Pagaoda in SA. However, one woman in our American compound did piercings. She’d ice the earlobe until numb, position a cork in the back of the lobe, and drive a needle through.

Sounds barbaric now, but it was very much the norm at the time.

I endured my piercing OK. Not so much for my little sister. First ear done, and she jumped out of the chair and ran crying for home.

She later regained her bravery and the second ear was done. One cool thing was that now we were given 18K gold earrings. Woo!

To LADYWYNTRE: Thanks for the character update in yesterday’s comic. I don’t know why I expected Heart’s mom to look like she did previously. Still murky on exactly who is “Kat.”

I never got pierced ears. At 45, I don’t believe I ever will. I used to tell people in high school that it was the ultimate in vanity to cut holes in one’s self to push little bits of metal through, and I wanted no part of it. No regrets about not having earrings. Some regrets about being a judgmental snot toward all the vain people. ;)

I heard it only stings for a couple of minutes, if you do it properly.

I used to know a guy with black plastic disks, about the size of nickels, stuck in giant holes in his ears. Yeech!

After a large number of years with holes in her ears that reacted to less than pure gold,my wife just let them go and they disappeared. She still gets problems with the wrong wrist watch.
