Living things, humans included, need sleep. It’s during sleep that our bodies run maintenance, repairing injuries, clearing out toxins, and so forth. That’s why people and animals die if they can’t sleep. Heck, even computers need to ‘sleep.’ Turning them off and then back on allows them to ‘reboot’ clearing out bad files and resetting the system back to the preferred settings. That’s why it’s not a good idea to run a computer for days because the errors pile up and it starts to malfunction. Just like us.

I read a story about a drug that made it unnecessary to sleep. With the extra time mankind got worse, not better. Too much time to create havoc.
