Thanks to the moral relativity trend, the bad guys are now “good with a tragic backstory” and the good guys are “opportunists”.

you mostly miss the clarity that comic book villains have.

the clarity of the distinction between good and evil, with no gray areas

We also have lost the distinction between helping and hurting.

Thanks in part to Buttercup’s attitude, major changes have occurred in a prominent city. First they were Protestors. Fine. Then they were Protectors. Fine again. Now, according to some reports, they are Predators, asking for money to preserve the peace. So, their progression to a dictatorial and repressive governmental system is complete. Another experiment in self-governance that has failed because it is repeating every similar mistake of the past 20 centuries. Congratulations. You now rule the ashes.

Missing a villain that can be pummeled by a lone hero or small team. A virus requires the united efforts of a nation, or the world. We all must actively support our heros, who number in the thousands. And there are no glorious action scenes, and the battle doesn’t fit in a two hour time slot.

The problem today is that some people are cheering for the bad guy.

Hey, his buddy’s reading about COVID-19 — now, there’s a villain for you!
