Well, Betty is getting tiresome. Someone needs to read the CDC report about how masks and “social distancing” won’t help against a virus less deadly than the common flu. Soooo sick of this hyped PLANdemic.
Now the science. There are many peer reviewed studies going back to 2009 that have found no benefit from wearing masks to stop a virus. These virii are 115 to 125 nanometers in size, there is no mask that will stop that short of a full-on filtered gas-style mask. Comparisons between N95 and surgical masks were conducted and only minor benefits, if any, in preventing viral infection were found. … and then you have the leakage around the edges to make sure doesn’t happen. One study from Japan between two control groups did show that a group wearing masks was less likely to get the flu than a group that didn’t, but the root-cause investigation showed that the group wearing masks was also practicing other healthy activities such as strong hand hygiene and getting plenty of sleep. Bottom line, the masks weren’t the cause of the lower incidence of influenza.
