I saw some deer while driving home from work last night. There was a doe standing a short distance from the road. I saw her well ahead of time and I slowed way down, keeping an eye on her. She looked like she was just about to cross in front of me, but then she turned and ran away from the road. That’s when I saw at least 2 more deer. mostly hidden in the trees. I’m glad she ran the right direction.
I hauled out my stash of needlepoint. Nothing else to do, might as well do something useful. Does wonders for guilt too!
Things might be opening, but I’m scared to go anywhere. In the Spanish flu pandemic in 1918, they called off the quarantine too early and had a huge spike of cases. I still don’t see people wearing masks tho.
I want to acknowledge and thank everyone who has ever served this country. This includes not just my husband, but both parents, my brother, all of my uncles and so very many of my friends. Some never made it back from Viet Nam. For me, Memorial Day really IS a day of remembrance and not just a day for big sales. Two things are guaranteed to make me cry: thinking about my visits to the USS Arizona and singing the national anthem.
A low sat like a wind-less hurricane on top of NC for most of last week pulling moisture from both the Gulf and the Atlantic Ocean. I had almost nine inches in my rain gauge. The low has left, but rain continues to keep coming back. Sigh. I’ve high enough not to have flooding, but it smells like I live in the middle of the Everglades because of the rot and stench of wet ground. Even singing Kermit the Frog’s swamp song doesn’t cheer me up like it usually does during wet spells. So, yeah, Chesney. I feel your pain.
Dead rain is an interesting term. Gotta give Chesney credit for that. coincidentally, it’s actually raining where I live. Thankfully, I have my umbrella with me when I go out for walks. I suppose if Chesney hates rain so much, he could just stay indoors, but I doubt that ever occurred to him. On another note, saw two rabbits (an adult and a little baby bunny) and some robins while out walking today.
My dad flew the bi-wing Jenny plane in World War 1. He also trained pilots…but was Army…the Air Force didn’t exist yet. He was born in 1889…didn’t get married until he was over 50 and was 56 when I was born.

Sometimes Chesney, rain can be a good thing. But NOT on my day off from work!

A puddle is dead rain? Hm, I like that.

Today is:
Memorial Day
National Wine Day
National Missing Children Day
Towel Day. We might need a towel if we get that rain they’re predicting.
National Brown Bag it Day. For me, that’s 5 days a week. I always take a sack lunch to work.
National Tap Dance Day. I’ve never tried tap dancing, but I don’t think I’d be good at it anyway.

Up here, it’s like everyone has lost every last brain cell they might have had. I’m still staying home and mask up if I have to go out.

Chesney, if it’s raining outside, do what Yum Yum does – find a nice quiet corner, curl up, and sleep for the duration.
