About 35 or 40+ years ago, about the time my son was born, the big one was Jennifer, obvious now in celebrity culture. When my daughter was born a few years later, Brittany was the popular one (the name always makes me think of the breed of Spaniel). My daughter’s graduating class had only 5 or 6 girls; one was Brittany and another was Brittney. And no, neither of my kids got those names!
