    Audrey Hepburn ate a danish in Breakfast at Tiffany’s. A danish sounds good to me. I’ll have to go out and get one.

    The point of the strip today for me is “why do they mess with perfection?” Whoever “they” are also mess with my running shoes. You find a pair you like and then “they” change them.

    Reminds me of a joke radio commercial a local station once came up with for: Sugar Shockers - Raw slices of sugar cane, rolled in honey and dipped in icing sugar. When they ask a kid how he likes them he replies “Tttheeyyy mmmmaaakkkkeee mmeee vvvviiibbbrrraatttte” But Mom’s will be glad to know that every box of Sugar Shockers comes with a free sample pack of Flintstones Chewable Valium.

    @ vzs1022, I hear ya about the running shoes. Sometimes I’ll go online and get a couple extra pairs of a favorite edition of my favorite model before they mess with them, which they will. As for cereal, they can come out with all the different kinds of Cheerios they want to (just saw chocolate cheerios for the first time) but I’ll never buy any but the original!

    My homemade granola…

    6 cups old fashioned oats 2 cups wheat bran 2 cups wheat germ 1 cup pecans, chopped 1 cup pumpkin seeds 1 cup sunflower seeds 2/3 cup honey 2/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar 2/3 cup OJ 4 TBL melted butter 2 teas. cinnamon

    Mix oats, bran, wheat germ, nuts and seeds in large bowl.

    In small bowl mix honey, sugar, OJ, butter and cinnamon, then toss with oat mixture.

    Bake at 275 degrees for 1 hour, stirring every fifteen minutes. If you prefer it crunchier, bake longer.

    It is delicious

    Twypsi: That’s chocolate FROSTED sugar bombs. In one early comic Calvin also mentions Honey Sugar Bombs.

    It’s not to far removed from reality. Chocolate Lucky Charms!? Really!?

    My ideal breakfast;

    Bowl of honey nut shredded wheat with skim milk. Glass of orange juice on the rocks. Two bong hits.

    I worked at McDonald’s in the late 80s when they changed the vanilla soft serve into frozen yogurt, and replaced the chocolate soft serve with orange sorbet. You never heard such complaining! I could barely tell the difference between the old and new vanillas, but most of the customers hated the new stuff simply because it was called yogurt. They were at the mercy of those who petitioned a corporation to produce, if not sell, more healthy food, and the corporation who caved. I was caught in the middle.

    With all due respect, Cleokaya, 2/3 cups of sugar, even if it is brown sugar, makes that recipe bad for you. Cut the sugar and you are good to go.

    Grog, I don’t think that I would substitute grapefruit juice. I have used pineapple juice and leaving the juice out altogether is no big deal. mtatulli, there certainly is nothing wrong with leaving out the sugar or using all honey as I have done at times. My breakfast routine, when I eat cereals, includes mixing 6 organic cereals in my bowl and using my granola is a topper, I have never had it strictly on it’s own except as a quick snack. The recipe makes a large amount and, in my own mind, do not think the brown sugar is that bad, but the good thing about the recipe, is you can add and leave out whatever you wish.
