It’s funny how this strip is less relevant (though still relevant) today. Sure, there’s more porn in total on the Internet, but it’s much less likely that you’ll encounter it accidentally through a Google search, specifically.
I was a Network Admin in the ‘90s. One of the biologists, an older woman, came to me highly embarassed. She had done a search on ’water’ and for whatever reason, it came up with highly imaginative porno sites for water activities. After stopping laughing, I cleared her search history and we tried again successfully being more specific in the search terms.
Some 20 years ago, a cop got in trouble for visiting a porn site. He wanted information from a U.S. Federal government site, but had typed in “.com” instead of “.gov” by mistake.
I made the mistake of googling my daughter’s first name at work – wow was that a mistake! I let our admin know and they removed my search history. I did not do that again! Hadn’t realized what how provocative her name was when I picked it out 54 years ago (when I was 10).

Ironically, it’s still funny and relevant today.

Was this version published in newspapers? Were they allowed to use the word “porn”?

This actually happened to me back in 1999. I was looking for Al Gore’s book. I typed ‘whitehouse.com’ in my address bar and got sent to a porn site.

I have never actually come across a porn site accidently.
