Calvin loves it when a plan comes together.

Just remember, you have a lot of nothing to accomplish before school starts.

We’ve been having some nice hot weather. Too bad the creek is ice cold and a mile away. (So cold you can get numb feet in less than an hour while wearing wool socks and long johns inside the waders. So I’m told.) For myself, my feet go numb in about 30 seconds while wearing nothing.

It’s been so hot that I’ve seen squirrels using oven mitts to gather nuts.

Calvin, since it is so hot and you have never been a slave to fashion or social restrictions, isn’t it time to go au naturel?*

au naturale for others(And stark nekkid for our mountain friends)

This is my favourite comic strip and I was born in 1966 which was why I chose my user name. Today is my older brother’s 68th birthday and would have been our Dad’s 92nd birthday as my brother was born on Dad’s 24th birthday. This is our first birthday without our Dad who died from pneumonia in March.

July has been brutal in upstate NY. My plans are to wallow in my chair and do nothing but my kids still want adventures. So, I grab my sweat hankie and my water bottles and we go to the creek, the river and the woods. It actually is well worth it.

When I was a child one of my favorite things to do was just lying in a field watching the clouds. All through my life with schools and work none of those accomplishments ever matched that same feelings.

The problem with doing nothing is it’s hard to know when you finish.

There remains division over if children having ‘unstructured’ activity time is good or bad. Observing my sister’s sons, I say they need a little more structure. The pandemic is making that hard, I’m sure.
