First time I recall hearing about keelhauling was in Flight of the Intruder where the CAG threatened to keelhaul another aviator. Said something like “that’s serious on an aircraft carrier.”
I remember when I looked it up, I quite agreed with that assessment.
I find it curious that the humor here requires readers to know what keelhauling is. I doubt very many do. Certainly not in 2020, and I can’t think there were many more in 1970.

In some of these Wizard of Ids I’ve never gotten the humor of being tortured. I guess that’s why I didn’t like Hogan’s Heroes.

If he was keelhauled again he must have fast and strong shipmates. Keelhauling was usually a final punishment.
