National Hammock Day. I like my lawn swing better than a hammock.
National Rat Catcher’s Day. I don’t like rats and have no desire to catch them.
National Penuche Fudge Day. It sounds good, but I would rather have chocolate fudge.
National Penuche Fudge Day on July 22nd recognizes the creamy candy with an Italian name. If you like maple flavor, this nut-filled fudge is for you!
Penuche (pə-ˈnō-chə) is pronounced pe-new-chee. The Italian form of the word is panucci. The fudge-like candy includes the following ingredients: brown sugar, butter, vanilla, and milk. Lighter in color than traditional fudge, penuche tastes like maple thanks to the brown sugar. If you are looking to celebrate, many shops in New England sell this fudge. There they will add pecans and other nuts, especially if making a candy form of penuche. Southerners call it brown sugar fudge candy.
Of course, the day provides an opportunity to test recipes, too. Add walnuts or pecans for a nutty texture to any recipe. However, if you prefer the creamier version, nuts are always purely optional. Cook the sugar mixture in a heavy saucepan. Making good candy or fudge is no time to go cheap. No matter what recipe you use, keep stirring and watch the temperature. Always use a candy thermometer. Fudge is finicky and will seize up on you.
From yesterday’s comments, jessegooddog said,“At least I had a great kitty dream last night – a mountain lion came charging towards me but stopped when I reached up to scratch his ears.”
When I was a kid, I had a lot of bad dreams where I was being chased by monsters. I think it was a result of all the unkind teasing I endured from kids at school – being called unkind names & just a lot of verbal bullying. But there was one dream I still remember to this day where I was being chased by a lion. The lion chased me up to a big stone building and I had no place to run. I thought for sure I was a goner. Then the lion raised up on his hind legs and placed one big front paw on each side of my head. But he didn’t attack me. Instead, he licked my face. I guess he knew I was a cat lover!
I follow comments on Ten Cats regularly, despite my low level of talk, and have heard all your stories and bits on what you and Paul were doing at any given time, ladykat and so wish to express my sympathy on what is surely a premature loss. Gordon
I don’t know who to feel more sorry for, Annie, who got dog piled on (so to speak) by eight cats, or Oliver, who’s still stuck in the wall. On another note, saw three rabbits, a finch, and a robin while out walking today. I also heard a squirrel. Earlier this week, I saw a chipmunk and a squirrel outside. Sorry I forgot to mention that.
Dear Ladycat, my heart breaks for you. I have lost many dear ones within the last few years. Please know how many of us will be thinking of you and praying for you.
@LadyCat, My condolences on your sad loss. It is hard losing a loved one; take your time over the grieving process. It takes a long time but keeping his memory alive does help; some days the sadness is overwhelming, remembering the happy times does ease the pain. The comic strips help and I spend a lot of time on YouTube watching old comedy sitcoms. :)

And poor Oliver’s still stuck in the wall.
For those of you who have heard me speak of my husband Paul, he died of cancer at 11:30 last night (July 21).

Update to my post yesterday: I have lost 175 pounds and have kept them off. My brother’s girlfriend is threatening to buy me milkshakes from Hardees.
