Know of anyone who still owns and uses those heavy, box-looking TVs (B&W or color)? I used to get those when previously employed as a Salvation Army donation trailer attendant.

It always ticked me off that all those controls were on the BACK of the TV, and you couldn’t see what affect you were accomplishing. I once had a TV repairman (Yes, they actually existed at one time) bring a large mirror with him so he could see what he was doing.

Our last black and white TV was just a bit smaller than an Edsel. You needed one person in front to tell the person in back what was happening. And don’t get me started on the 3 person relay to adjust the roof antenna for the basement TV.

Broadcast TV went digital in 2009. Don’t think they have vertical holds on converter boxes.

When I was a kid, we didn’t have electricity, so we had to watch TV by candlelight……….snicker snicker

When my husband and I got married in the early 80s, we used to tell people the I married him for his color TV and he married me for my stereo system. The first time I saw the Wizard of Oz on his TV, was before we got married and I had no idea it went from sepia tones to color. I had to have been 25 and it about blew my socks off. It was GORGEOUS!! He just sat and laughed at my look of stunned amazement.

But there was no Brightness or Contrast knobs as I recall. And just when you thought you had the vertical adjusted right and you settled back in your chair, the piiicccttuuurrreee ssslloowwllyy ssssttaarrrttteeeddd rrrrrooollliiinnnggg aaagggaaaiinn.

Knobs. Knobs. Yes, I remember. I saw them on the original Star Trek.
