Alone I might start a tire repair shop. If I wanted to manufacture tires, I might have to get together a few people with money. That is a corporation. But if you can live having me patch your tires everyday because there are no new ones, I’ll survive. Who needs new tires as long as we get rid of those dirty corporations? First we get those capitalist drug companies that make your child’s medication. We got herbs and roots.

Lew, making tires and drugs are one thing. Owning most of the government, and deciding what policies are implemented, whether they are good for the people or not, is another. Please don’t give me the nonsense, that they will police themselves, Wall Street already killed that goose.

Hey, Lew…where do you think most of your drugs come from? That’s right…roots and herbs. Natural remedies work better and with less harmful side effects than modern chemical concoctions.

And, yes…I say get rid of corporations entirely. No more monopolies, no more “diversified businesses”, no more “corporation entities”. Put the capital back in the hands of those who actually work, not those who leech of the work of others.

Darkforce, it is called Facism. The government lets corporations exist as a “separate” entity, but they are totally under the governments thumb. There are so many rules and regs that they cannot exist without being subservient to those controls. This is actually what has caused us to be in the mess we are in. Along with some very greedy CEO’s.

Actually the sign needs to read, “One World Government and Monetary System is here” You cannot buy or sell without taking the mark of the system.

@odel: Yes, there are regs. But think for a moment what would happen if the government were to grow a pair and try to bust the corps down. National defense, gone. Social security, gone. So many of our “federal services” have been quietly outsourced to private companies that it’s the corps that are the ones in control. And how did they get that way? Us! The consumers, the voting public, we’re ultimately responsible for everything gone wrong because we bought the goods, we elected the talking heads based on one issue, and we never paid attention until it was too late. Never forget that it’s a government “by the people.” So we’re all responsible in some way. Including me.

Maybe there was a time when corporations were organized to make a product - like tires, cars, tools or whathaveyou. That is no longer the case. Corporations now exist to make one thing: profits, and everything else be damned - and that everything includes workers, consumer safety and any hint of ethical behavior.

Its one thing to make a useful product like aspirin and profit reasonably from its sale so you can do research on other useful products; it’s quite another to make something like Vioxx, bribe the government regulators to look the other way during the testing process, then sell it for overblown profits while it’s killing people, all the while throwing more money into marketing the poison than looking for ways to benefit society..

Grow up America. Corporations only have what you are willing to give them, either by omission or commission. And please learn the difference between critical thinking and complete generalization.

It is not government or corporations, corporations are the government. Some by privatization, other by bribes called “campaign contributions”.

By definition, fascism is “a governmental system marked by a centralized dictatorship, stringent socioeconomic controls, and often belligerent nationalism.” It’s actually not much different from Communism, except that the socialism it desires is a function of the state, rather than transcending the state. Note that the formal name of Nazi Germany’s political party was the “National Socialist German Workers’ Party”. Fascism is simply nationalistic socialism, and is crowded into the left side of the political spectrum, along with Communism, Socialism, and many other “liberal” functions and causes.

Now, on the other hand, the Government sponsored “Military-Industrial Complex” is another matter…

If we (the real government) can’t control the corporations they destroy the environment. To a corporation the bottom line is profit and absolutely NOTHING else matters. You guys that cry about the rights of those poor corporations might get your wish and your children and grandchildren will pay the price. We made some progress on cleaning up the mess they made of the environment starting back in the ’60s and the corporations have taken over the government so they can put a stop to it, increase their profits and the hell with the air and water we breath. Corporations eat and drink dollars and don’t care about air and water and food pollution.

2/3 of government spending is to individuals, not corporations, the rest is distributed to a lot of different organizations. If the corporations are running the country, they aren’t very good at taking our money, compared to the mass of people who collect ‘entitlements’.

I pay close to $500 for 30 pills. Is that for the half billion they spent developing that drug? No, it’s for the $5 billion they spent developing 10 other drugs to relieve suffering and pain that the FDA did not approve because of a side effect in .0055 of the study group. I don’t have to pay $500, I could die. I think the drug is a better use of my cash than a new car payment. Am I being robbed by corporate America? Should I chew twigs and roots instead? I happen to be glad a corporation took the financial risk to keep me alive.

Lew, and it pays for their full-time lobbyists and massive campaign contributions, just to make sure the laws are tweaked their way.

I would love to see how much profit companies are making without these hidden ‘extra’ fees…Could start up some new jobs or make it possible to pay more taxes. snicker

If you make more profit by keeping the government off your back, or even by getting a subsidy from them, how can you not take it? Your competitors will, and put you out of business. The problem is not corporations, it is a government that has its fingers in every possible place where there is money.
