I needed some clothes. A visit to the department store was surprising because there were limited selections and almost everything was cabled up. I asked and the store feared looting. I thought my neighborhood was exempt from protest looting but apparently the store thinks otherwise.

I do all my shopping online. It’s quick, convenient and ensures I don’t have to deal with pesky crowds.

Everyone complained that Walmart was destroying the small retailers when they came to town. Now look what Amazon is doing to everyone. The times they are a changing.

When we retired and moved 15 years ago, we donated or sold most of our large furniture. We thought that going shopping for new furniture would be a great way to get to know the area. Well, we got to know the area quite well. We spent two solid weeks visiting every store with furniture for sale within an hour’s drive: 1 large city, 4 large towns and a smattering of small ones. We couldn’t find easy chairs and sofas that ‘fit us’ (long legs and short legs). Most of the stores seem to carry just two brands and in all the same styles and colors. A couple of stores had different furniture but it was way outside our price range (and the furniture was built for larger rooms than ours). We did end up getting a sofa locally (just for company, it doesn’t fit either of us comfortably). But we got our easy chairs ‘online’ from the manufacturers who had made our previous chairs. Something went wrong a while back with our retail model — when every store has the same products for roughly the same prices, it’s a waste of time to ‘go shopping.’

I haven’t been in a brick ‘n mortar store in a long time. Friends told me that the Kohl’s closed all its dressing rooms—don’t have the staff to clean them.
