I’m like Katy, I just don’t like the taste; but I adore the smell of the beans. Fortunately, I married a woman who also dislikes coffee, because coffee breath in the morning would be cause for divorce.
I tried coffee once. I even tried to sweeten the coffee, but to no avail. I ended up throwing away a good portion of that cup of coffee away. So I don’t consider that having a cup of coffee as I only took a couple of sips, so I just say I never had coffee. I remember working midnights in a lab all by myself and the union guys came into the lab asking if I made a cup of coffee as other that work in lab drank coffee. I said I don’t drink coffee, so why would I make it?
For me coffee is proof of evolution. I start each morning with reptile brain, and as I drink my coffee I become warm blooded, speech arrives, and I can join the human race.
Well that’s simple. We all pretty much use the Starbucks gambit. Take the swill, add sugar and yummy flavors until we can’t taste the coffee and Voila, a warm tasty liquid that tastes nothing like coffee but gives us a buzz.
I was weaned off milk and sugar with my coffee when I started my summer job at a sheet metal shop, right after high school graduation. Then came college cram sessions and 30+ years of shift work. Have been drinking coffee straight, the darker the better, ever since. But, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee is by far the best!
I dislike both the smell and taste. And I’m allergic to something in coffee – I get headaches if I drink in. Not the caffeine – I drink lots of tea with no problems, though.
When I was 12 and went on Weight Watchers I would drink black coffee, no sweetener. I continued to do so through my 20s. Then my stomach decided it was too acidy and I stopped – have not missed it. Since husband does not drink coffee we have only had instant coffee in the house for when we had family in for Thanksgiving dinner, before we had bed bugs and stopped having people in our house, as our BIL’s both drink coffee – no one else. I just checked while writing this – regular was good to April 4, 2013 and the regular was good to November 3, 2014 – guess I should get rid of them.

When I was a kid, my parents would let me flavor my milk with just a bit of coffee. We would have coffee ice cream. I’ve always loved coffee.

I’m with Katy on this one. Love the smell; hate the taste.

I love my coffee rich and dark
It quells my morning urge to bark
Milk and sugar and dark roast flavor
Thank you coffee, you’re my savior.

I do warn people that taste is not the primary consideration pertaining to my Nuclear Coffee
OK, it tastes awful
Additives according to taste might help but another warning, cream screams and sugar makes a sound that can cause nightmares

Allergic to coffee, and the smell literally makes me sick to my stomach. Also brings on an instant headache!

I’ve never liked the taste, but I used to like the smell. Now I’m starting to dislike even that, although I still like the coffee beans’ aroma.

(To rephrase a line from “Apocalypse Now”) I love the smell of coffee in the morning. It smells like…Consciousness.
