When I was growing up my Mom had all the furniture covered in plastic. It kept everything nice but it was hot and sticky in summer and cold in winter. It did a good job protecting the furniture that we never bought anything new.
I hope that last comment Janis made means that she has covered the old couch. It is almost criminal to cover something new to protect it. Keep it covered too long and the wear will show underneath and you’ll never have one that looks new.
If you get company* you throw some extra sheets on a couple of other pieces of furniture and tell them that you are getting ready to do a little painting.
So, JJ, I’ve got a challenge for you. A & J are sitting in the car eating take out fast food. The fried chicken came with mashed potatoes and gravy but no spoon or fork or spork. Arlo attacks the dish directly with mouth and tongue. Yes this just happened. Yes I made a joke and no it wasn’t funny. But you can do it! Turns out the biscuit worked better than oral gymnastics.
I figured that the real reason the sofa is covered is to tempt us with which one it is for awhile longer.
Covering is something husband’s family does – they have a philosophy of if one uses something it gets used up and then one no longer has it or it is not as nice as it was. My family had the idea that if one owns something it is there to be used – not abused, but used.
Husband was shocked that my family not only used the dining room, good china, stemware, sterling silver when eating on the holidays, but did so on Friday nights also (we are Jewish, he is not). His family ate in the kitchen with the everyday stuff even for Christmas Day (Christmas Eve and Easter they ate out). This idea carries on in his head. I had to argue for us to eat our Thanksgiving dinners and other holidays in the dinning room now that it just two of us.
When we started this past March we had 9 2liter bottles of Diet Coke. We were not allowed to drink of any them – if we drink them they will be gone – same idea. In early May I pointed out to him that if we continue to not drink any we will still have them but they will start deteriorating as they are past their good by date and diet Soda (based on bottles not used in routine which have aged in the past) lose their sweetness and they will not taste good any longer. We now each have a 1/2 glass of Diet Coke at dinner on Saturday nights.

I hope it’s a slip and slide cover. Also, how long before Arlo sits on Ludwig, hiding under the cover?

All it’s missing is cobwebs and spooky Steven King shadows

Just wait until Ludwig gets a crack at…….

Now all they need is a blanket (because we’re watching) and they can pump some life back into that snuggle couch.

Blinded by the light and haunted by the couch.

Arlo, now’s your chance! Go after those double negatives of hers! ☺

I do the same thing but with a new car that has leather seats.
However, I use the seat covers only during the warm months so that perspiration doesn’t stain the leather.
A little OCD, I know.

I hate when you go shopping and they have too many choices. Same thing for online stores. If there’s too many to choose from I choose ZIP!

My bride did this on our sofa, then got a new puppy. Now she is very glad she didn’t get the new sofa. About once a year she orders a new cover.

We did the same.
