How the heck do you get to the last ‘mater? We have two plants that have produced around 60 tomatoes, and still going strong. I’m considering inviting some deer over for brunch.

You may mourn the last tomato of the season from your garden, but you never feel a twinge of remorse for the final zucchini’s disappearance.

When I was young we lived in a 4 unit apartment complex. On our side of the building was a small plot. Mom decided to plant some things so we could have some fresh vegetables. That was until some jerk kid came in the middle of the night and trashed everything. Mom never tried that again!

Why? When I lived in Corpus Christi, with a similar warm climate, I had ripe tomatoes from March through November. We’d set out the new plants the second week in January.

Mine will produce until the first freeze. In recent years that’s been as early as the day before Halloween, to a right before Thanksgiving one year.

Every time I’ve tried to plant any sort of Veggie in my back yard, a heavy windstorm has come along an Shredded them.

I once got a tomato plant all the way to the Flowers Blooming stage before the wind ate it.
