In April 1945, with the Red Army ringing the doorbell on his bunker, Adolf Hitler gave up on the German people stating that his failure was their fault and issued his infamous Nero decree that the nation should be destroyed.
Interesting that all that most people know of Nero is that he fiddled while Rome burned. Which may not even be true. I guess that’s better than what will be known of the rest of us in 2000 years. Which is nothing.

Of course Nero had no access to modern methodologies, like voter suppression, collusion with the KGB, gerrymandering, court packing, pandemics, etc.

Slavery was a big part of both of these societies. The vast majority of residents were not considered citizens, and voting was tightly restricted.
