There is an Italian film classic called THE BICYCLE THIEF (1949). It’s main theme is the gradual bonding of a father and his small son as they search for the bike for which the father depends on for his livelihood.
Nowadays Sluggo ought to call a lawyer. The thief will sue him for allowing him to steal something not in proper order. And the scumbag thief would likely win.
Reminded of a favorite Andy Griffith episode in which he suspects a convict is in a certain old woman’s house (because for once her sciatica is “Fine! Just fine!”) and tells her – and the convict – where his boat is. Just not about the leak that about swamped him and Opie while fishing.

For someone whose vocabulary includes “dis” and “dat,” “My bike hasn’t any brakes” sounds kinda off.

I think that the arithmetic Ernie did on this strip to be wonderful.
Three plewds in panels one, two and three and three five-pointed stars in panel four.
