The De La Salle Brothers (Christian Brothers) had a winery in California and made wine (including sacramental wine) and brandy from 1882 to 1989 when the winery was sold to Heublein.
Convents are notoriously underfunded. Traditionally they provided refuge for confused young woman before they found their way in the world. College isn’t really the same thing.
Related: our old German Lutheran church (some fond memories with the grandparents there) was razed a few years ago. Condos have replaced it. Though they did keep one of the oldest trees out front. It’s proximity to prime lakefront property and a park made it a target for developers.
