For a good laugh about archæology, read Motel of the Mysteries. Numerous science fiction writers have addressed the problems of reconstructing the past as well; thinking this morning of Asimov’s “No Connection.”
At least the reconstruction got the hairy scalp right. That’s probably the part that future species will consider especially icky.

That is obviously wrong! Some lived in cold climate areas and would have froze to death without feathers.
Don’t scientists believe that it is insects that will survive?
