Why is this cartoon slopping uphill at both ends? And… did you notice that it was snowing so hard by the last panel that you couldn’t even see the boarder ?
I still don’t get the idea of “allowance”. I never got an “allowance”, nor did my kids. You live in the house, you have chores. Chores weren’t a job you got paid for, they were your responsibility. If you didn’t do your chores, it’s not that you wouldn’t get rewarded- you’d lose privileges, such as no tv shows, no dessert, etc. If you wanted money, you found something else extra to do to earn it… it was never something just handed to you.
Maybe this is the only way for him to buy anything. When I was a kid, i could hop on my bike and head to the store if i wanted to spend my paper route money. Nowadays, no modern helicopter parent will let their kid out of their sight long enough to run to the store without supervision, much less have a paper route (or earn money independently any other way, like shoveling driveways.)

Today’s parents (and grandparents, as well) are too easy . . . And we love spoiling the children.

Still, I wouldn’t want to be a kid today. Mid-late 20s maybe.

So many things I never ordered because the shipping was six weeks and $2.95! Who would pay that for a book on ventriloquism and x-ray glasses?

Four words: Get a job, kid.

AND.. who’s fault is that mother? Giving the kid whatever/whenever he wants it will not prepare him for.. adulthood.

How does she know that he hadn’t saved some previous allowances and finally had enough for his purchase when he got his latest?

It isn’t particularly clear that easier is better in this case.

As long as Jr doesn’t start borrowing on the next allowance or tries to get an early birthday/christmas.

Now, that kid will grow up to be a fine millennial.
