I have always considered watermelon to be a fruit. I am a Native Oklahoman. They didn’t ask me what I thought it was. I don’t eat vegetables with watermelon like some folks do.
According to Webster’s dictionary, a vegetable is anything made or obtained from plants (2004). Since watermelon is grown as a vegetable crop using vegetable production systems, watermelon is considered a vegetable (Wolford, 2004). Thus OK declared the watermelon the state vegetable. What is their state fruit you ask? The strawberry.
most likely, Revere called out, “The Regulars are coming”, or the other possibility is, “The Red Coats are coming.” After all the colonies and the citizens thereof to that point of time were British.
I caught a gopher turtle in Montgomery, Alabama. When I turned it loose a few days later, I banded it with a goose band my father had that was used to track geese. Months later we received a letter saying the tortoise was found in Mobile, about 168 miles away. I figured it was probably picked up while crossing a highway and turned loose in Mobile.
There’s a lot of misinformation surrounding Paul Revere. He is credited with making and selling a small plaque depicted the Boston Massacre but he fashioned it to make the patriot cause look good and the British look bad. The real view would look much different.
Virginia had its own version of Paul Revere. His name was Jack Jouette. He saved the state government (including governor Thomas Jefferson) from capture by General Banastre Tarleton.
Oh … that is why Oklahoma is known as one of the most obese states following behind West Virginia and Wisconsin. I guess, you can say, Oklahoma is very “well-rounded.”
Being British himself, as all colonists were, Revere would not have said “The British are coming”, even though he was captured before he could announce anything.
The vegetables in Oklahoma’s state capital voted for watermelon.
The near sighted Solomon met and fell in love while on the run in a Tennessee watermelon patch.
There were over 40 riders who warned of the British approach on Lexington, but thanks to Longfellow, Revere got all the credit. Actually the British stopped Revere during his ride and took his horse. He ended up walking the rest of the way to Lexington.
Fruits have external seeds or internal pits while veggies do not, so a watermelon is not a not a vegetable. However, Oklahoma has the right to name anything they want as their state vegetable.
Paul Revere’s exploits, whatever he said, have worked their way into the American mythology. Yers, I meant that word. Just like Greeks or any other peoples, the legends have a greater impact than the facts. Oh, Shall I dive for that silver dollar in case George’s throw wasn’t enough to get it to the other side of the Delaware river?

LOL! The quote (or misquote) is “The Redcoats are coming”—-which Paul also did not say!

So, they despise vegetables so much that they gave that honour to a fruit, eh?

I’m a native Okie and it seems to me the state vegetable should be okra.

Would the BIBLE’s Solomon quote “Right under your nose”, concerning the tortoise?

What Paul Revere shouted depended on whether you were listening to Fox or CNN.

Paul did not get a chance to shout. He was captured by a night patrol and had barely ridden one mile. Other riders did get through.

Paul Revere might not ever have shouted, “The British are Coming!” But how can we be certain? There were not any audio recording devices at that time.

Maybe Revere “tweeted” that…no wait, it might have gotten blocked by the pro-British moderators.
