One of the big name engineering colleges had an annual paper plane contest. One year the winning team simply crumpled their plane into a ball and threw it as far as they could.
I’m with others here; if thrown properly, Kevin’s would have gone farther, and probably stayed afloat longer. Those forward jutting “stabilizers” coming off the wing would not hold shape and it would nose dive, unless the card stock was heavy enough to be stiff, in which case it won’t stay afloat for long and Kevin’s would win easily.

In many cases, the wadded up ball does get better distance, and the handling is better, even if there is less air time.
