We never had a fireplace either. We always hung our stockings on our bedroom doorknobs. My mom crocheted the stockings though and eventually the loops got to the breaking point (from all the years when they were stuffed to the max). She had started making new ones, but then quit on them.
I have had to become very careful NOT to shelve any books until I read them. Of course, under the current conditions, I now have two teetering stacks of books to see me through the holidays. I read a couple of books a week, on average, (no I’m not retired), so they won’t last much longer than that.
Wish I could get into reading more. My Mom was an avid reader since childhood. She told me once of how she was so engrossed in a book she was reading as a kid her parents were discussing what her Christmas presents would be right in front of her and she didn’t hear a word. I’ve never tried an electronic reader, but I would be a disappointment if it didn’t keep my interest. I use to read a lot as a kid. Any suggestions??

Maybe you should look at your bookcase more often. Easy to put all the books there that you mean to read some day.

When I had paper books I always read them before shelving. I couldn’t wait.

You could have used a staple gun to put the stockings on the ceiling.
